Ducky’s Birthday

I managed to make Ducky’s cupcakes in time for the party. It took all evening and all morning since I had to stop every few cupcakes to go lay down on my back. Sleeping on the floor last night helped enormously as I was able to walk upright for the most part. And I am about to say one of the most cliche things I have ever said, but seriously what kept me going was envisioning Ducky’s smile when he saw the little duck cupcakes I made him. And when he saw them, I got just that. They look a little weird, but everyone who saw them concurred that they were indeed ducks.

I made a little army of them.
The venue was nice for a small child’s birthday party. Ducky got his own little guitar balloon, crown, and front row seat to the mouse concert.
I spent most of the party sitting at the table trying not to exacerbate my back problems, but the kids had a great time. On the few occasions I did make it out onto the game floor, I got this great picture of Ducky with his favorite uncle.

We sat Ducky in front of the cupcakes to get him to blow out the candles. After which I asked him which cupcake he wanted. He said “the yellow one.”

I was trying to get him to look at the camera.

Chuck E also tried to get him to look at camera, but Ducky instead decided to point too, while looking away.
The kids had a great time, so as far as I am concerned the party was a success.
I am still pretty sore, so back to laying down for me. Aside from Ducky’s thing my back has managed to cancel my entire weekend. Granted I would never miss my son’s birthday, even if I would have to be carried there. But I would have liked to do all the other things I had planned as well.
Needless to say, I won’t be having dinner tonight with my friend who just got back. I emailed her this morning, and it turns out she is also coming down with a cold, so it may be for the best that neither of us go anywhere. But…. but…. I had a cute little top I wanted to wear. Oh well… there is always next week. I will try to use my evening wisely and get some studying done.

Wordless Wednesday

After watching Ally dress all of her dolls, Ducky dressed his dinosaur in a one of Ally’s doll’s dresses. Cute.
I was getting together a bag of stuff for Tanya’s coming baby, and I found the onsie I brought Ally home in from the hospital when she was born.
Point of reference. Slightly bigger than my hand. I have pretty small hands.
I just thought this was adorable.

Almost Two

Ducky will be two in less than two months and I am beginning to think about what I should do for his birthday. I have managed to keep the kid alive for two years. That should be a celebration onto itself. I should get a new dress. No? That is not how this works? Well, then I will just get the dress anyway and call it a day.

Ok, back to his birthday planning. I want to do a theme. Can you guess which one? Ducks! I bet you didn’t see that coming. I know, I know, but really now, for how much longer do you think I can get away with this? I can’t imagine my teenage son will want ducky themed birthday parties. So I am enjoying it while it lasts (read: while he has no opinion and/or cannot articulate well enough so I can pretend I don’t understand what he is saying when he protests).

Believe it or not, this is actually quite a common theme. Otherwise I don’t think there would be as many duck  oriented birthday party paraphernalia items. Of course I am also open to suggestions. If anyone else with a vested interest in this party has anything to say about it, then I will consider other themes.

Before anyone gets too excited, there are a few things I will veto outright. No dinosaurs. We did a dinosaur-like theme for his first birthday. That was very nice. Should he request it again when he is better adapted to speech, then it may again be taken into consideration. In the interim, no dinosaurs. No lions. Currently the lion is his favorite animal and he is obsessed with these creatures. I blame everyone who bought him lion stuffed animals and toys at birth and for his first birthday because he happens to be a Leo. Very clever. I am still waiting for my bow and arrows. However, because I don’t see this lion fetish abating any time soon, I am saving this for his third birthday. He will be far more cognizant, and maybe even remember it down the line. No Curious George or Winnie the Pooh. Just because.

In the meantime I will be fantasizing about all the yummy duck looking desserts I get to bake and decorate.
